Thought I must post my thoughts on the exhilarating time we all had yesterday. The children have not stopped talking about their flights yesterday and are asking if they can do it everyday. I would have loved another turn up there but it was fun all the same.

This trek involoves the high altitude Himalayan lake, trek to Dodital, an emerald lake, situated amidst thick forest of Oak, Deodar, and Rododendron. This loveliest lake of Uttranchal and the forest area harbours most of the high altitude himalayan fauna. Himalayan brown trout, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, leopard are found in abundence with Monal pheasant, eagles and rich variety of butterflies and flowers.
Roopkund is situated in Chamoli district of garhwal. The road head for roopkund is lohajung 155km from Almora, 217km from nainital and 235km from Kathgodam. Roopkund situated at a height of 5029m in the lap of Trishuli massif. This area is usually called is the ‘mystery lake’, since human skeletons and remains of horses from the poleolithic age were found here.The lake is surrounded by rock-strewn glacier and snow clad peaks. The starting point of the trek is lohajung, easily approached by motor from Almora.
The Valley of the flowers is one of the Natural wonders of the world,and recently it has been inscribed as world heritage site, the Alpine Valley nestles at the feet of majestic snowpeaks. This carpet of flowers 10 kms in length and 12 kms in width is the abode of gods. During the rains the entire Valley is transformed into a natural garden with an innumerable variety of alpine flowers. At the altitude of 3,500 meters to 4,000 meters, this valley has snow lakes and glaciers, all now preserved as national park. Nestled high in the West Himalaya, India's Valley of Flowers National Park is renowned for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers and outstanding natural beauty.
